OPPORTUNITY - U.S. Prep & Placement Program offered by Huawen Mandarin College & Global Education Group

LOCATION – Qingdao, China, Shandong Province>. Located on the eastern side of Qingdao near the Yellow Sea, Huawen Mandarin College is in one of the most beautiful cities in China. Qingdao is the 2nd 2008 Olympic City where all of the sailing and major water sports will be held.

DESCRIPTION – Huawen is a language school where a program of preparation for and placement in U.S. colleges and universities will be offered. Huawen is an affiliate of Qingdao University.

The U.S. Prep & Placement program is designed for Chinese students who hope to study at a college or university in the USA. The program will have 3 main components:

  1. English instruction—Students will spend 10 months in a curriculum which will emphasize conversation, listening comprehension, reading, introduction to academic language and American culture.
  2. Placement—A placement library will be available to the students where they can study brochures and catalogues from the participating institutions.Teachers will assist students in their search and application process.
  3. Visa procurement—Students will be given consultation and assistance in applying for their visas to study in the USA.

Teachers will have the opportunity not only to teach English but to interact with students at a critical point in their lives as they prepare to study abroad.

TEACHING NEEDS – Up to ten (10) experienced English teachers or experienced classroom teachers who will get an ESL certificate before arriving in China.  CGE offers a short online course for ESL certification.  Our goal is to have 200 students in the U.S. Prep and Placement program beginning in September of 2006.A teaching ratio of one native English speaker for each 20 students will be maintained.Qualified Chinese teachers of English will also be on staff to assist in classes.

TIMING - Classes are scheduled to begin in September of 2006. Teachers should plan to be at Huawen Mandarin College one week before the beginning of school for orientation and training.

EMPLOYMENT PACKAGE – Teachers in the U.S. Prep and Placement program will also serve as placement counselors and will be paid well above the average for English teachers in China.The package includes:

  • Salary – RMB 10,000 per month (US$1,250) for 10 months
  • Airfare – Round-trip airfare for each year’s contract
  • Completion bonus – One month’s salary upon successful completion of 10-month teaching term
