CGE delegations continue to build strategic partnerships with top educational
leaders around the globe. Over the past six months, CGE teams have literally
spanned the globe investigating these key level partnerships beginning with
Chinas Inner Mongolia province, continuing on to Bangkok, Thailand, then across
to Afghanistan and Dubai in the Middle East and westward again to Tunisia. CGE
established relationships with each countrys ministry level officials to ensure
CGE member schools access to the most strategic projects and partnerships.
Previous CGE delegation trips to Tunisia paved the way for two highly
successful projects in July with the College of Economics and Commerce (IHEC,
Institut des Hautes Etudes Commericales, Carthage directed by Mohammed Goaied)
of The 7th of November University, Carthage and the Arab Institute
for Enterprises (Institut Arabe des Chefs DEnterprises directed by Fayçal
Lakhoua). The university project included an English Conversation Training
workshop for faculty and graduate students for their school of business.
Anderson College participated with CGE in the university
project and CGE related professionals assisted with the Arab Institute
project. The US Embassy hosted the CGE group for an evening event and CGE met
with the Ministry of Culture and officials from the Ministry of Higher
Education.CGE signed a formal agreement with Dr. Taïeb Hadhri, President of The
7th of November University.A similar English project for IHEC faculty is
requested for March or April, 2004 and a business seminar requested for late
May, 2004. For additional information email cbishop@cgedu.org or plan to sign up for
these projects at the CGE Annual meeting at Hardin-Simmons University, September

The American Unviersity of Sharjah buildings exhibit the Crown Princes commitment to a high educational standard for facilities and programs.
|

CGE received repeated requests to investigate educational development in the
restructuring of Kabul University. Samford University, Anderson College, and
Ouachita expressed interest after receiving documentation from Kabul. Dr.
Carolyn Bishop, CGEs President, extended CGEs summer itinerary to include
Dubai and a short trip to Afghanistan. In Dubai, the American University of
Sharjah presented a viable opportunity for CGE faculty to conduct short-term
courses or summer courses with American and UAE students. The campus is
impressive and enjoys the benefits of full support since the Crown Princes
flagship focus is education. The American University is currently in the process
of gaining Middle States accreditation status.

R-L, Union Professors Cathy Parrett and Tharon Kirk visit nursing classrooms with nursing faculty from the Inner Mongolia Medical School.
|
|
Union University supported Dr. Tharon Kirk and Professor Cathy Parrett, both from
the School of Nursing, with Dr. Cynthia Jayne, the Director of the Institute for
International and Intercultural Studies, in their efforts to seek a nursing program
partnership with Hohhots Nursing School of the Inner Mongolia Medical College.
CGE assisted with the logistical preparation and the communication links for the visit
and challenged the Union team to also visit nursing and medical facilities in Qingdao
and Bejing. Union will be returning to Hohhot for joint workshops in American nursing
practices and rural health concerns. Beijings Union Medical University and hospital
provided a contrast to Chinas nursing care that will allow mutual learning experiences
for Unions School of Nursing. The visit to the office of Chinas Nursing Association
in Beijing also opened many doors to nursing partnerships in China. Please contact Dr.
Susan Jacob (sjacob@uu.edu), Unions Dean of Nursing, if you would like to join their
efforts to partner with Chinese schools of nursing.
